Very close to the wreck of the Caraquet is an open dive site called Hog Breaker. The popular and protected buoyed dive site features great swim-throughs and overhangs. On a calm day, the dive site is ideal for viewing the incredibly hard and resilient algal cup reefs that are implicated in the majority of shipwrecks around Bermuda. Breaking the surface, sometimes miles from Bermuda and surrounded by the Sargasso Sea, these breakers constitute their own particular reef ecosystem involving a dynamic combination of ocean water, wave action, coral and fish. These reefs have become a locus for activity from the surrounding reef that has no equal in the world.
